Mumps occurs due to infection of bacteria named ‘Paramayocoma’ and lymphatic glands are infected by this disease. Mostly, this disease attacks at the time of changing weather like- ending of the winter season and coming of the rainy season. Mostly, it occurs in the children below the age of 14 years. It never occurs again in the whole life after occurring once.
Cause:-
The bacteria which are responsible for this disease are called ‘Paramayocoma’. It is an infectious disease that spreads from one person to another. When a suffered persons sneezes, the person who comes in contact of such persons are also infected by this disease.
Symptoms:-
In this disease, the patient feels irritation in his throat with fever that persists for 6-7 days. Stiffness comes in the lower jaw with pain; patient becomes unable to open his mouth; having difficulty even in swallowing food; the chin is swollen from one side; sometimes the other side is also swollen that persists for 2 days and then cured by itself. In young age, swelling comes in the testicles that persist for 10 days. It may be responsible for meningitis and deafness, etc. If swelling is found in the patient suffered from this disease, fomenting for 6 days cures swelling.
Diet and abstinence:-
The patient suffering from this disease should take light and liquid diet according to the ability of chewing and swallowing. It is necessary to take complete rest in the condition of swelling and fever. Keep the mouth clean and rinse the mouth with lukewarm water regularly. In the case of swelling of the testicles, foment them with ice cubes with taking complete rest. The testicles should be kept by giving support in the condition of feeling heaviness in them. Vaccinating of mumps vaccine is necessary in the children because after this vaccination, there is no possibility of occurring this disease till 12 years.
Important tips:-
Consult a doctor in the cases of swelling of both the cheeks with the shining of its skin; persisting fever all the time; pain and swelling in the testicles, etc
