INTRODUCTION
- Phosphorus is a powerful polychrest remedy.
- It acts deeply on nerves, blood, bones, and mucous membranes.
- It is especially useful in tubercular constitutions, tall, thin, fair persons with fine skin and delicate features.
- It is one of the great hemorrhagic remedies.
GUIDING SYMPTOMS
- Tall, thin, narrow-chested persons with weak lungs.
- Great nervousness and oversensitivity to external impressions like noise, touch, light, odor.
- Burning sensations in various parts – stomach, spine, hands, chest, palms.
- Desires cold food and drinks, but vomits as soon as it gets warm in the stomach.
- Great thirst for ice-cold water in small quantities at short intervals.
- Sensation of emptiness in the stomach, worse after eating.
- Bleeding tendency: From nose, gums, lungs, uterus, rectum (bright red blood).
- Hoarseness and loss of voice, especially in the evening.
- Diarrhoea after eating – stools are watery, profuse, gushing, and offensive.
- Hair falls in bunches, dandruff, early graying.
- Spinal cord affections, weakness and numbness in limbs.
- Craving for ice cream, salt, fish, chocolate.
MIND / MENTAL SYMPTOMS / PSYCHOLOGY
- Very sensitive and affectionate but easily exhausted.
- Fear of being alone, fear of dark, thunderstorm, future, disease.
- Imaginative, dreamy, lives in a fantasy world.
- Anxious about health and future, always seeking reassurance.
- Sudden emotions: Laughs, cries, weeps alternately.
- Great sympathy and desire to help others.
- Forgetfulness, absent-mindedness, confusion of ideas.
- Delusion that something is creeping out of the corner of the room.
FEVER
- Fever with intense burning, chilliness in back and limbs.
- Intermittent type: With marked periodicity.
- Chill begins in hands or feet, ascends upward.
- Sweats profusely at night, even on slight exertion.
- Fever with exhaustion, even after slight illness.
- Hemorrhages during fever.
RESPIRATORY COMPLAINTS
- Dry, tickling cough, worse at night and talking.
- Hemoptysis – spitting of bright red blood from lungs.
- Tightness of chest, oppression, must sit up to breathe.
- Hoarseness, aphonia, worse in evening.
- Bronchitis, pneumonia, and tuberculosis when mucus membranes are affected.
- Great weakness after cough or chest affections.
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
- Vomiting of cold water after it becomes warm in stomach.
- Desires cold drinks, juicy fruits, ice cream.
- Gastric ulcers, hemorrhage, burning in stomach.
- Stool is copious, watery, gushing with exhaustion.
- Diarrhoea after eating, painless but very debilitating.
SKIN
- Burning eruptions, acne, boils, itching.
- Hair loss in patches, dandruff.
- Skin is very dry, cracks bleed easily.
- Purple spots, petechiae due to blood disorders.
- Wounds bleed profusely, heal slowly.
EYE & VISION
- Vision dim, as if a veil over eyes.
- Objects appear red, halo around light.
- Hemorrhage into retina.
- Photophobia and pain, especially after reading.
HEMORRHAGIC DIATHESIS
- Bright red bleeding from any orifice: nose, lungs, rectum, uterus.
- Post-operative bleeding, epistaxis, uterine hemorrhage.
- Hemophilia cases may respond well.
