CLINICAL INDICATIONS

Dropsy (Edema):

  • General anasarca, especially post-acute illness (scarlet fever, malaria, typhoid)
  • Cardiac dropsy with dyspnea and cough
  • Abdominal dropsy (ascites) with distended abdomen
  • Edema of face, extremities, scrotum, labia
  • Scanty urine, often dark, hot, and passed in small quantities

Heart:

  • Useful in cardiac dropsy, especially with weak pulse, faintness, and orthopnea
  • Heart feels oppressed, beat irregular, pulse feeble
  • Palpitations with faint feeling on slight exertion

Fever:

  • Intermittent fever with cold skin and dry mouth
  • Great thirst, but cannot retain water
  • Perspiration relieves the patient

Urinary:

  • Urine scanty, high-colored, or albuminous
  • Suppression of urine with generalized swelling
  • Urination relieves dropsical symptoms temporarily
  • Burning in urethra

Mind:

  • Dull, apathetic, drowsy, confused
  • Indifference to surroundings
  • Sleepy, but sleep is unrefreshing

TONGUE & MOUTH

  • Tongue dry, thickly coated
  • Mouth dry, lips cracked

POTENCY & DOSAGE

  • Low potencies like 3x, 6x in fluid retention cases
  • Can also use tincture form (5–10 drops in water, 2–3 times/day)
  • Frequent repetition needed in acute dropsy

  • A – Anasarca with thirst

  • O – Oedema general, urine scanty
  • C – Cannot retain water despite craving
