KEYNOTE SYMPTOMS (Boericke + Allen Combined)

“Edema with stinging, burning pains and intolerance to heat.”
“Swelling, redness, and shiny skin.”
“Thirstlessness with dry mouth.”
“Aggravation from heat in any form.”

  • “Sensation as if stung by a bee.”
  • Edema, burning-stinging pains, and absence of thirst. 


CLINICAL INDICATIONS

General:

  • Edema anywhere – face, eyes (esp. lids), uvula, throat, ovaries, joints
  • Burning-stinging pains
  • Redness with shining appearance
  • Sensitive to touch

Fever:

  • Sudden onset, high fever with no thirst
  • Dry heat, more internal than external
  • Restlessness, crying out, especially in children
  • Chilly yet cannot bear heat

Eyes:

  • Puffy, edematous lids
  • Conjunctivitis with burning, stinging pains
  • Eyes feel sore and sensitive to light

Throat:

  • Edema of uvula, red and shiny
  • Difficulty in swallowing, burning pain
  • Throat feels constricted

Female Reproductive:

  • Ovarian inflammation, especially right side
  • Burning, stinging pain in ovaries
  • Amenorrhea or menorrhagia with heat and swelling
  • Helpful in threatened abortion with edema and burning

Urinary:

  • Scanty urine, burning during urination
  • Incontinence or retention of urine in children
  • Albuminuria, especially in nephritis
  • Useful in nephrotic syndrome, especially post-scarlatina

Mind:

  • Irritable, fidgety, restless
  • Cannot concentrate, cries out suddenly
  • Jealousy in children
  • Weeping from slightest cause but resists consolation


TONGUE & MOUTH:

  • Tongue red, shiny, possibly swollen
  • Dry mouth without thirst
  • Burning-stinging sensations

CONSTITUTIONAL TYPE

  • Fair, fat, flabby persons
  • Children, especially girls, prone to urinary and skin troubles
  • Sudden, acute complaints; emotionally sensitive and jealous


POTENCY & DOSE

  • 30C, 200C in acute inflammations and edemas
  • 1M or higher in constitutional cases
  • Frequent repetition in acute states like urticaria or nephritis

Sudden onset, red face, but not thirstless or puffy

Rhus tox

Edema but with restlessness and desire to move
